In life, there are times that you will need to make a quick and on-the-spot decision or take an action in relation to something. At the point, you have to realise that your singular action may trigger a ripple effect and may have consequences that you cannot even imagine. This is the reason you have to, as a matter of necessity, look before leaping. What this means is to consider your actions, the effects, the results and consequences before taking them. It is only when you have analysed the potential result of an action that you can welcome it. Risks are good, but they have to be calculated before they are taken. Here we shall look at what is involved in "looking before leaping."

The first point to consider is the act of gaining clarity. When you have clarity about an action that you want to take, you will not take it blindly. A lot of people have taken unproductive steps before, not because the step they want to take is bad but because they have little or no knowledge about the step. Take this instance, it is true that driving is good, but imagine giving your car keys to someone with zero knowledge about driving, you will be predisposing the person to a terrible risk. Before you rush to make a decision or take an action, you have to know what you are up against. You need to be careful to observe the required details before you take decisions.

This thing also applies very well in the crypto space. Before you take any decision like buying of a crypto asset or investing in a coin, you need to have extensive knowledge about what you are investing in - doing your own research. When you have taken time to make research, gather extensive knowledge, accumulate ideas and information, it will be easier to take decisions. Always have in mind that you will bear the consequences of the decisions you take, so "look well before you leap." Most times, people may not be interested in knowing what led to the decisions, they will just want to know what your decisions are, so make them wisely.

Another point we will consider is "learning from past experiences." When something happens (whether good or not), there are experiences it normally teaches. This is so that when you meet similar situation in the future, you will know how and what to react to it. By reflecting on what has happened in the past and the experiences they teach, you can appropriate it to the present and it will help you to "look before leaping." Taking hasty and "unreflected" decisions, sometimes, can lead to later regrets. So before you take any action, you must ask yourself if it the right action to take at that moment. Even the mistakes you made in the time past can serve as a source of lesson and experience for the present, so you can also relate to them when taking decisions.

In addition to learning from the past experiences, you have to also recognise present opportunities. However, you may not be able to know an opportunity when you see it until you have built and developed yourself to recognise an opportunity when it comes. Seeing the world as full of opportunities will open up your mind to the actions you need to take so as to make the most of the opportunities. One thing to also know about opportunities is that you do not wait for them to come all the time, you can create them. Right from where you are and with what is happening around you, a lot of opportunities can be created.

This leads me to the next "looking before you leap" strategy: Be more of proactive than reactive. You do not always have to wait for things to happen so that you can respond to them, you can make them happen on your own. When you are proactive, you anticipate the kind of situation that may arise and then prepare to respond accordingly to it, but when you are just reactive, you only wait for the situation to happen before you make any move. One thing to know is that any action you take (either as a form of being proactive or reactive) will have consequences, so think about them before you take the actions.
