There may be times that a single attempt may not be sufficient to deliver the desired result that you seek, and in the moment, giving up will invalidate your initial attempt, so you have to keep attempting. Obviously, for every single attempt you make, you draw near to hitting the mark. This is because attempts confer on you experiences which you will need subsequently to make the next attempt better. So if you try and do not get the result, then try again and do not stop trying until you have secured the result. Even when you have secured the result, you still have to sustain the result and then improve on it.

The point at which you feel like giving up is the moment that requires you to put in your best because there is something that wants you to give up which you need to overcome, and you may just be at the edge of your desired result. That you failed at the first attempt does not automatically mean that you will not get it right at the subsequent attempts and it does not also make you a failure. There are times that life will give you a knockdown, but as long as you refuse to stay down, then it is not a knockout. You only become a failure when you concede to it and when you stop trying.
I once watched a particular heavyweight boxing championship where a particular boxer was knockdown in early minutes of the first round. As if it was not enough, he was also knocked down in the second round and suffered some heavy punches in the hands of his opponent, but he refused to give up. In all those instances of knockdown, he rose again to fight back. Just as the match was starting to draw to a conclusion, he found a chance and delivered a brutal connecting punch right to the lower jaw of the opponent that sent him down and out - it was a glorious knockout. The timer went down and he couldn't rise back up to fight and that was how the other guy that was knocked down in the early moments of the match went ahead to win the match.
You are the only one who can determine if a failed attempt is a failure or a lesson to make you better at the next attempt. It is not the situation you find yourself that determines your lot, but it is how you respond to the situation. Two people may fail at an attempt in doing something, but if one of them give up and the other persists and perseveres, then the later will hit his target while the former will live his whole life believing that he could not have succeeded in it. It is worthy to note that many of the successful people who make impact in history also had their own fair share of failed attempts, but they refused to give up.
When you refuse to give up even in the face of what people may term as "failure," then the failure will get tired of you. However, one thing to note is that when trying again subsequently after the initial failure, you have to try differently from the methods that you used in the first attempt. You will agree with me that it is almost impossible to do the same thing in the same way that you failed at and hope to succeed at it. If you must obtain a very difficult result (a better result) from the one you did in the first attempt, then you are required to try differently.

The journey to success requires consistency even in the face of challenges. You may not get the result that you expect but for the fact that you tried (even if you failed at it) should give you the encouragement that, at least, you are making a reasonable progress. To hit your target, you have to be focused on it, give it your possible best, then make attempts towards it. Remember, giving up is not part of the options.
