Many people attribute maturity to age but in the real sense of it, does maturity come with age? As someone accumulates age, does is also equate to maturity? It is worthy to note that there are some experiences that people have acquired that are without recourse to age. In relationships, do people consider age as the primary requirement for them or are there other factors that are considered first before the age factor? One thing to note is that Age does not confer responsibilities, but maturity does.

From the experiences I have acquired about life, I have come to realise that age and maturity, more often than not, are not in correlation to each other. This is the reason you can see a younger person behaving so maturely and relating with issues with maturity, whereas you can see older people behaving childish to the issues that they should employ maturity. This has led me to believe that age is not a cure to ignorance. After all, even ignorant people grow old. So you need to assume responsibilities to grow in maturity.

A few months back, I was discussing with a friend of mine about the issue of relationship and age, and I was amazed by what she revealed to me. Before her present relationship, she had had other past relationships, but this is the first ever time she is dating a guy whom she is older than. She went further to tell me that she used to have reservations with dating younger guys but when she met her present guy, she understood the statement; "age is a number." She confidently told me that this is her best and happiest relationship ever. Guess what? Their wedding is coming up in a few weeks time.

In relationship, there is no age formula and there is nothing like a "perfect age." At this point in time, people now place less emphasis on age and more on the things that make relationship to work, like attitude, character, emotional maturity, empathy, etc. If I ask you, will you rather be with someone whose only qualification is "perfect age" or with someone that values you, respects you, has a good attitude and character, has emotional maturity and acts wisely? You see, there are more to relationship than just age.

There are some people that when they act, you will see that maturity is really a summation of experiences and not of age. The truth is that, in a relationship, respect is earned, not by age, but by character, attitude, and giving respect in the first place. So as a guy for example, you cannot say that the reason you want to be in a relationship with a younger lady is to earn respect. You should be respectable first before you earn respect. Similarly, as a lady you are not straitjacketed to being with an older guy. As long as other necessary factors are put in place, you will be surprised how the respect will flow even if he is far younger than you.

Attitudes are without recourse to age. There are some people that have crashed their relationship because of bad habit, and there are others that have built a good relationship by having a good attitude. You will agree with me that there is nothing that one can categorically gain by exhibiting bad attitude. And there is no excuse that is tenable enough to be used to cover up for a bad attitude. Some people blame zodiac signs, constellations, temperament, nature, nurture, etc for bad attitude, but I tell you, it is purely a product of choice. Humans are creatures of freewill, so we can make a choice of our actions and reactions.

It is worth noting that there are many things to gain by having a good attitude and character. Sometimes, what crashes people's relationships is nothing from the outside, but their own attitude towards their partners. You may be of a very beautiful/handsome nature, and may even fall into the "preferred age group", but without a good attitude, it will not profit you much. In conclusion, when it comes to relationship, people should stop majoring on the minor and rather focus on the major things that make for a successful relationship.
