It is true that life can throw at you some moments that may not be desirable, but at some other points, it will also bring blessings your way. But it is where you focus more on that will determine how your life will eventually turn out to be. Someone who focuses only on their losses will only end up feeling heavier and sad. This is why you have to count your blessings, not your losses. When you learn to appreciate what you have, you will be able to move forward with hope. The truth is that no matter how life has been to you, there are still things that you can count as blessings if you are able to think well. Focus on what is working for you, not what you think is not working.

A lot of people spend too much time thinking about the things that went wrong, but they tend to forget the things that are right. They are quick to compare themselves to others, they regret their experiences, and dwell on the opportunities they missed. This makes them to feel discouraged and lack the motivation to move forward in life. What they fail to understand is that their life is actually better than a lot of others, but they are not even seeing it. Trust me, there are lots of people who are wishing to be like you or to even have a fraction of what you have. What you do not count as a blessing is someone else's prayer point. This is why you need to realign your mindset to focus on your blessings.
There was this friend of mine who would complain about everything. Each time we met, he would look for something that is not working for him to complain about. He got a job with one of the state governments, but instead of feeling thankful that he got a job, he was complaining that his boss gives him too much work and that he makes him to work overtime. No matter the good thing that happened to him, he would always look for an aspect that is not working to complain about. At a point, I had to try to make him see reasons to count his blessings and be thankful. I told him that he is a graduate, while some others do not even have hope of going to school. I also told him that he got a job immediately after graduating, while some others are in the labour market for years hoping for job. And a lot of other things I told him.
The truth is that life cannot be perfect for you, but it does not mean that there is nothing in your life that you can count as a blessing. Counting your blessings does not mean pretending that problems do not exist. Rather it means that you have refused to allow the problems to define your entire life. Even the challenges that come your way are not totally bad, because they carry lessons and an opportunity to grow. So when something that is not too good happens, instead of beating your head and asking why it happened, try to find out what is in it for you, and what you can learn from it. This can shift your focus from looking at the negative side of things to the positive side.
When you take a look at yourself, there are many reasons and a lot of things that you can count as blessings. Take the gift of life for example. What did you pay specially to have the privileges of being alive? There are people who are more careful than you, more privileged than you, and even richer than you, but who have gone, or with a failing health. You see that the gift of life is a blessing on its own. In addition to this, there are other things happening around you that are positively affecting your life. This is also part of the blessings. Even the step you took that brought you small victory, can also be used as a stepping-stone to achieve bigger victory.

Life may not be going as you had initially planned or intended for it, but at least it is not worse. More so, you should not compare your life with someone else's own. You may not know the history behind them, you may not even know the secret battles they are fighting or the hidden challenges they are facing. Focus on what you have and be thankful for it. This will give you the motivation and the zeal to keep going. A lot of the people you may be envying or wishing to be like may not even have a fraction of what you have, yet you may not be seeing the blessings in what you have. Gratitude is not a function of what you have, but a function of how you value what you have.
It is worthy to note that no human has an absolutely perfect life. The people you meet may be facing struggles that you may not see. What makes the difference is in their attitude. The people who constantly focus on their losses often remain trapped in sadness. But the people who focus on their blessings will live a happier life. More so, they discover peace, resilience, and motivation. So count your blessings, not losses.
