There are lots of people that are dealing with lack of confidence and this can present itself in various ways. This is why one should make a conscious efforts to build up their confidence as well as improving on themself. One thing to also know is that there is no limit to how much you can improve on yourself and the act of building up one's confidence level is continuous. Just to let you know, confidence, more often than not, is not something you are born with but what you develop over time. Here, we shall take a few points that will help one to effectively build up their confidence.

1. Make a list of your past achievements

The more you refer back to your past achievements, the more you gain the confidence to replicate a similar one in the future. Of course, if you were able to achieve that kind of feat in the past, then nothing stops you from replicating it again in the present and in the future. This can form the focal point for you to develop the mentality of "I can do it again and again" spirit. You can draw strength from your past achievements to face the present task.

Making a list of your past achievements will enable you to pinpoint the areas that are within your strength which can also boost your confidence. You will be surprised at the unimaginable ability and strength that reside on your inside. However, people are only limited by their own selves - their mentality. If only we can look beyond the task and beyond the challenges to the power that lies in our inside, we will achieve the unimaginable. When you are left with the only option to be confident and strong, you will be surprised how inexplicably strong you will be. Always remember that the "you" that achieved something in the past is still the same "you" and you can still do it again.

2. Give yourself realistic targets

When you set a target and know that you can achieve it, it builds a level of self confidence. However, if you set an obviously impossible target for yourself which you know cannot be achieved, it may reduce your confidence, not just in going after the task but in similar tasks too. To build up your confidence, you should start by giving yourself an easy and achievable task. Then when you achieve it, it will give you the required confidence to go onto the next task. You can even do that with your dreams. If your dream becomes too big and monstrous, you can break it down into micro-dreams and pursue after it independently. When you achieve one, then you will gain the zeal to achieve the next.

It will be counterproductive to put yourself in a condition to believe that you are omnipotent or invincible whereas you are not. You do not have to convince yourself to follow after an unrealistic target because if you try repeatedly and keep failing at it, your confidence will be hampered deeply. I am not saying that dreaming big is not good, it is very good. But it should not be impossible or unrealistic, so that you will not be discouraged by it.

3. Stay around confident people

More often than not, who you stay with for long, you will tend to emulate their personality. For example, if you hang around timid people, it will not be long and you will imbibe timidity. But when you stay with confident people, you will learn confidence from them. The personality of the people that you surround yourself with can go a long way to have influence on your own personality, and in this case, can affect your confidence level positively or negatively.

You cannot hang around people who lack confidence and expect to build your confidence. Trust me, it is very easy to resemble who you hang around with, so make the right choice of who you company with. Before you associate with people or company with them, observe their lifestyle and know if they have what you are looking for. Trust me, you do not have an immortal life here on earth to waste it on hanging around the wrong people. You have to note that the choice of your friends will also go a long way to determine many things about the way your life will turn to be, so stay around people that will positively impact on your life.
