No matter how serious you are for the day, it does not take away the challenges of the day, so you have to learn to approach life in a more humourous and funny way. Trust me, carrying a long face will not make the solution to the problem to be found, it will only make your journey longer. This is why it has been advised that you smile always and try to create your own happiness. Of course, life may not present you with what you want in the manner you want it, but at least you have a choice of being happy and then seeing the silver lining even in the midst of darkness.

There are times that you may think that your day is not going according to plan and everything may be pointing towards you being sad. But at that moment, how you respond may determine the outcome of the situation. Here is the story of my close friend, which also confirms this. He was going for an interview and was dressed for it. He entered the train because it was the fastest means available to get to the destination than waiting to take the bus. While he was sitting on the sit along the edge row, a woman walked in and as he was making way for the woman to sit, she mistakenly stepped on his shoes and when she was trying to pull her foot, the worst happened; she mistakenly spilled her coffee on his shirt.
Everyone was expecting the man to be mad at what happened. The man looked and humorously told the woman "damn!, the laundry man is going to have one more job to do." She felt so sorry about that. The man said it's okay, but he needs to go back home and change, because he was going for an interview at a particular organisation, which he mentioned. While the man alighted from the train, the woman also followed suit and beckoned on him. The man looked back and saw the woman following after after, he smiled and said humorously "you dropped with me, you wanna help me wash the cloth?" Both of them smiled.
The woman approached and responded humorously "you don't have to bother going for the interview, it can be brought to you here." Surprised at the response, he asked the woman what she meant. The woman revealed that she is the manager and interviewer for the organisation. She also told him that she is impressed with the way he took the whole scenario lightly and humorously. Right on the spot, the woman, who is the manager, offered him a spot in the organisation without the need to do any interview. Imagine if he was so serious and mean to the woman when she spilled the coffee on him, he would have lost the opportunity of getting the job.
I have always told people that even in the roughest of situations, you can still find humour in it. When tomatoes are thrown at you for example, do you bow down and get sad that someone had to throw tomatoes at you or do you gather the tomatoes, smile, and then tell yourself "dinner is set, I'm gonna make a delicious omelette with it"? If you will look beyond the "face value" in any bad situation, you will see rays of light in it that can form the basis of your humour, and you will not have to beat yourself over the bad situation.

A friend once said; "without adding humour to your day, your day is not complete." There is truism is the saying. Each day that passes, you need to add a sense of humour to your day, if not for anything, it will make you to feel better and then make someone else to also feel better too. There is a kind of feeling that comes when you create your own smile even in the midst of rough and challenging situations. The truth is that you may not determine how life treats you and you may not even have a choice of how and what challenges throw at you, but you have a choice of how your response and reaction to it will be.
