The next stage of mini-renovations has started with zhuzh-ing up the smallest room in the house. Step 1: a shiny new toilet seat. This meant a trip to the shops.
Normally I would have started with painting the room, but the seat was in dire need of replacement. Too many hot summers in a room that gets the full heat of the sun all day had deteriorated the plastic and liberal use of cleaning products had helped the whole process along.
The whole shopping expedition was much more involved than I expected. First there was lots of measuring the existing seat, then determining what kind of hinges were required, then measuring those, then researching the different materials a seat could be made from, then considering the material's hardiness when exposed to excessive sunlight and disinfectant, then selecting a shape, and of course a colour ... I ended up spending a considerable amount of time at the store comparing measurements and trying to determine which one to buy.
The header image is part of the range at the local Bunnings Hardware store. The more colourful ones were up higher. Check out those rainbow woodgrain stripes:
In the end I selected an inexpensive white one with slow close. "Eliminates slamming" the ad proclaims. The important thing is it fits perfectly, it looks good, and it hopefully won't be too cold in winter!
The next tasks for the smallest room are painting the walls and replacing the flooring. That will mean another trip or two to the hardware store!
While I was there looking at toilet seats, another seat caught my eye. I've been looking for a reading chair for the outdoor area. This rattan chair would have been perfect, if little pricey. I can just imagine it with a comfy cushion and a footrest for my feet. Perhaps next time.
