At the sight of MMM, I know a few people would experience a flashback about the Ponzi scheme that almost took the lives of many in Nigeria years ago. Naija, we too like free things! I remember how my friends invested in the scheme. So many of them bought new gadgets and even encouraged me to join their league. I won’t lie; for the first time, I contemplated joining them. But as e reach my turn, everything got scattered! Although I felt sorry for those who lost their fortunes and more to the scheme, I was grateful I didn’t have to go through the pain. I said this recently: I don’t invest in what I don’t understand.
On Mondays, I invest a lot of time planning what my week will look like but still end up having one or two surprises. The MMM in my topic is “Money Making Monday”. Most of my Mondays are filled with planning and strategizing what the week should look like.
Sincerely, I would prefer just making money on Monday mornings. I don’t have to worry about waking up early most of the time because I work from home. I am only required to be on site on other days of the week. Although I leave my house once in a while to work on Monday mornings, not always. This is more like a prayer answered because, as of last year, the story was totally different. I would wake up around 4 a.m. and get home very late, having to wake up early the following morning. Monday back then was filled with endless stress!
There are several factors responsible for money not coming in on Mondays. One of which is the kind of clients I work with. Most of my clients have jobs that require them to hate Mondays (lol). They work from Mondays to Fridays and sometimes Saturdays. Their weekends go by so fast, and sometimes it seems like there is someone with a remote fast-forwarding the short break. They also complain about the heavy traffic and the challenges of getting late to work, whether they drive or board public transit. These and other rants are the major parts of our discussion almost every Monday. I wish their problems were solved so they could focus more on what I had to do for them and save time. I have yet to meet a client who doesn't complain about Mondays, and funny enough, their rant is what I hate about Mondays.
Every Tuesday looks unique, like it’s the ideal beginning of the week. Because that is when I record most of the successes in projects. By then, I already have most of the work done. Monday is for ranting and Tuesdays for delivery, and this attracts some tokens; Wednesdays for reviews; Thursdays for resubmission; and I get most approvals on Fridays. Although this cycle doesn’t always work as stated, this is what my week with clients often looks like.
As I pray for a better life for my clients, I am also cautious of the fact that it is their work, busyness, and stress that are indirectly putting food on my table. Without their work, they may not be able to even pay me at all. To have the desired Monday, I’ll say that God provides them with more time to rest and recover from their stress, so they won’t have to think or talk about all they go through every Monday but focus on the projects we need to close, thereby increasing my income. Because the more work done, the more capital flows.
