I got a message this morning from a friend of mine: 'Did you see the sky last night?' a stunning picture of the beautiful pink sunset in Margate. 'Are you mocking me?' I replied. I, on day three of isolation after catching the dreaded lergy.
J.M.W. Turner said that the skies above Thanet were the loveliest in the whole of Europe. Call me biased but I'm inclined to agree. He painted over 100 paintings of East Kent. This, on balance, is probably worth an art gallery named after him.
As I see in the New Year in isolation, I've been looking over the pictures I've taken over my two years of being back on the East Kent coast.
Two years, every day a sunrise and a sunset, every time a feeling of luck when I've managed to catch one (or perhaps the odd tinge of regret at catching one in the morning when I haven't yet made it to bed).
No, I didn't see the sky last night, but it'll be there tonight and I'll do my best to see it then, even if through a window for now.
