病不殺人, 藥不活人, (병은 결코 사람을 죽일 수 없고, 약은 결코 사람을 살릴 수 없다.)내 병은 내가 고친다.

수심(手心)을 이야기 하기 전에 한의학의 음(陰)과 양(陽)에 대해서 간단한 설명이 필요하다.

사람의 전면(前面)은 음(陰)이고 후면(後面)은 양(陽)이다. 이와 같은 정의는 자연계 중 동물을 관찰하여 생긴 것인데 동물들의 등은 태양을 향하고 있으므로 양(陽)이고 복부(腹部)는 땅을 향하고 있기 때문에 음(陰)이다.

사람은 직립 동물이지만 전음(前陰)과 후양(後陽)에 대한 속성은 다른 동물들과 차이가 없다. 그러므로 사람의 수심도 음에 속한다. 손바닥에서 땀이 척척하게 흐르는 사람과 악수를 하고 나면 기분이 별로 상쾌하지 못하다. 그래서 손바닥에서 땀이 많이 나는 사람들은 사교상 지장이 있다.

현재 서양에서는 손바닥에서 땀이 많이 나는 사람들을 위하여 손바닥과 연결되어 있는 겨드랑이 속에 들어 있는 신경을 절단하는 수술을 시행하고 있다. 수술 후 손바닥에서 땀이 나지 않는다. 그러나 위험한 짓이며 한의학 입장에서 볼 때 자기 파멸이다. 왜냐하면 사람의 정상 경맥을 파손시켰기 때문이다. 인체내의 배설구를 차단시켜 버렸기 때문에 병이 생길 가능성이 있다. 한의학에서 한 쪽 경맥이 파손되면 백약이 무효라고 말한다. 이러한 사람들에겐 하늘과 대적하여 싸우면 피해를 본다고 경고해 주어야 한다. 옛날 부터 고인들은 신체는 하늘과 같다고 말했다. 하늘을 망가뜨리는 것은 자기 자신을 망가뜨리는 것과 다를바 없다.

엄지 손가락은 폐경(肺經)에 속해 있다. 엄지 손가락이 저리거나 무감각한 사람들은 폐와 관계가 깊다. 엄지 손가락의 어제혈(魚際穴) 부위가 붉은색을 띤 사람은 폐에 열이 있는 사람이다. 어제혈에 청색을 띤 사람은 폐에 한(寒)이 있는 사람이다. 폐한(肺寒)을 치료하지 않고 그냥 내버려 두면 위한증(胃寒症)이 발생한다.

식지(食指)는 대장경에 속해 있다.

좌전(左傳)에 보면 ”유적인구유예감(有的人具有豫感), 지요식지일두동(只要食指一抖動), 취각득능흘도호동서(就覺得能吃到好東西)” 라고 기록되어 있다.

다시 말하면 ”만일 식지를 돌리면서 흔들면 맛있는 음식을 얻어 먹을 수 있을 것이라는 예감이 생기는 사람들이 있다.” 는 뜻이다.

한의학에서 먹음으로써 생기는 사람의 본능적인 쾌감은 실제로 대장에서 나온다고 말한다. 대장경은 식지로 통하기 때문에 둘째 손가락을 식지라고 부른다.

심포경(心包經)은 가운데 손가락을 통과한다. 일반적으로 약혼 반지는 가운데 손가락에 낀다. 약혼자들의 마음이 변하지 못하게 하기 위해서이며 더 이상 다른 욕심을 품지 못하게 하기 위해서이다. 심포경은 사람의 희락(喜樂)을 주관함과 동시에 욕망도 주관한다.

황제내경에 ”삼초위수도출언(三焦爲水道出焉)” 이라고 기록되어 있다. 다시 말하면 ”삼초는 물길과 같다.” 는 뜻이다.

고대 농업 국가에서는 물길이 좋아야 전답(田畓)에서 수확물을 많이 거두어 들여 국가가 번창하였다. 예를 들면 대우(大禹)는 치수사업에 성공하여 백성들의 존경을 받았다.

요순(堯舜) 시절에 순왕(舜王)이 하족(夏族)의 수령(首領) 곤(鲧)에게 홍수를 다스리라는 명령을 내렸으나 곤(鲧)은 치수사업에 실패하였다. 그래서 순왕은 곤(鲧)을 죽이고 곤(鲧)의 아들 우(禹)에게 또 다시 치수 명령을 내렸다. 우(禹)는 13 년 간이나 집을 떠나 전국을 돌아다니며 치수에 성공하여 홍수의 피해를 없애고 농업 생산 발전을 이룩하여 나라를 부강하게 만들었다. 순왕은 우(禹)에게 왕위를 계승시켰다. 우왕(禹王)은 양성(陽城 : 현재 河南省 登封)에 도읍을 정하고 하(夏 : 서기 전 21 세기 – 서기 전 16 세기) 나라를 건립하였다.

인체에서 삼초는 국가의 치수 사업과 동일하다. 국가의 치수 사업이 양호해야 국력이 번창하는 것 처럼 인체내에서도 수도(水道)가 통창되어야 인체가 건강하다. 삼초의 상태를 형언할 수 없다 하여 고부라 칭하지만 삼초는 인체내에서 중요한 장부 중 하나임은 틀림없다. 삼초가 전신에 원기(元氣)를 통행시키고 수곡(水穀)을 운행시키는 통로라는 것은 사실은 인체내의 장부의 생리기능을 종합한 것이다.

끝으로 심경(心經)과 소장경(小腸經)은 새끼 손가락으로 통과한다. 가운데 손가락이 저리거나 무감각한 사람은 경증(輕症) 심장병에 걸려있는 사람이고 새끼 손가락이 저리거나 무감각한 사람은 좀더 심한 심장병에 걸려있는 사람이다.

현명한 한의사들은 환자의 맥을 짚을 때 새끼 손가락도 함께 점검하며 심경(心經)의 온도를 감지해 본다. 새끼 손가락이 유달리 차게 느껴질 경우 환자의 심경(心經)은 창통하지 못하다는 것을 알수 있다.

A person who has a blue color in his blood yesterday is a person with a cold in his lungs. If you do not treat the lungs (肺寒) without leaving them, 胃寒 症 occurs.
