An entry for the #wednesdaywalk challenge hosted by @tattoodjay.
Winter is officially here in Wisconsin. We've had a few snowfalls since November, but it always melted away with warmer temperatures after. This weekend saw about six total inches of snow; with wind chills in the -20Fs, this one won't melt away any time soon.
With cold temperatures in mind, I thought it would be worth it at lunch to go visit my old friend the Old Willow Tree. The Old Willow Tree, you might recall, was a mainstay in my childhood. My brother I used to visit all of the time when we were kids; my parents would let us run wild in the local marsh whenever we could. I know, it's science fiction today, but that's the way it used to be.
With some free time at hand during lunch, I thought I'd trudge out to visit my old friend and see how it was doing after this past weekend's snowstorm and cold.
It appears to be doing ok!
All seems well, yet again. Recorded history in the local newspapers has this tree at about 120 years of age. Despite the odd weather of the past years, I'm confident the old willow has seen it all, from seedling to today, in its 100 years of age.
To be fair, and to give everyone a head's up, my plan is to visit the old willow tree at least once a month this next year. To me, it amazes me that so many walk/bike/run by this tree without even giving it a second look every day of the year. I get it; it's a big tree on the side of a trail. Fortunately, some of us truly understand it, and appreciate it and its life every time we visit.
Thanks as always for stopping by to take a look at my #wednesdaywalk! More to come as we head into the new year; hoping everyone else had a wonderful Wednesday too!
