A hobby I would love to invest a bit more resources and time into is wildlife photography. I may have mentioned this in the past, but life during COVID last year really allowed me to bond with nature. I remember having just watched an episode of Hellier while in lockdown and going for a hike at lunch, hoping in some way shape, or form I was going to run into a Sasquatch. No luck, believe it or not; yet I remember not needing to see Bigfoot as being a meaningful event in my life. The old Dustin would have needed that, but the new one can just be content to be in nature and enjoy the sounds, smells, and sights of nature.
If you have seen any of my work on Hive, you might have noticed my newfound affinity for photographing and identifying mushrooms, trees, wildflowers, rivers, and even animals when fortunate enough. My Pixel has helped me with all of that, but I'd like to take the next step and purchase a proper camera and rig to take the hobby to the next level.
The photo above is neat and all, but it's the best type of photo I can manage with my phone. Living in what is called the Driftless area in North America, there are more than enough beautiful birds and animals that inhabit the area over the four seasons. Why not step up my game with a small capital purchase and take the time to photograph wildlife properly? This area is rife with waterbirds; big beautiful waterbirds that love hanging out in my beloved nearby marsh. What better hobby to get into and get my daughter into?
So for 2022, there is a new goal for this cheesehead. No, it's not to find Bigfoot or even see UFOs while out and about. Instead, it's to concentrate on the things that truly matter...and me focusing on the Earth and all of its treasures is something even a boring accountant can get excited about.
So once the holiday season is over and I buy my first proper DSLR camera with an appropriate lens, I will most certainly be getting out into the world of photographing nature. There could be worse things to get into, I suppose.
