Winter is fully here in Wisconsin, and with it, the opportunity to take advantage of the outdoors for some fun activities. Skiing? Oh no. Snowboarding? I used to, but it's been so long ago. Crosscountry skiing? No again. Snowmobling? That's fun, but more of a Northern woods activity. How about sledding with one's three year old daughter? You got it!
This past weekend saw a good 4 inches of snow hit the area. After the snow, a southern wind brought quite a bit of moisture to the area, and the trees turned a fantastic frozen white around the city. What better opportunity to take Hattie to the local golf course/sledding resort for some weekend fun?
We started a few knolls/small hills around various greens to get the sledding chops started. Hattie did ok, and to be honest, my body didn't hurt too bad after a few runs while I was sledding down the hills with her. However, that would change as the morning went on.
Ahh, but those little hills. What's the fun in that? Even a three year can tell there a better, longer hills to climb up and sled down...so away we went to the larger hills. And let's be honest; climbing means her sitting in the sled while I pull her up a hill.
Even my wife got into the fun a bit; despite not being a "cold person" (who really is, though?), she managed a few sled rides down the hills too. Hattie, believe it or not, was having the time of her life depite all that snow being kicked into her face.
All in all, a good day of fun, but my body was hurting a bit afterwards. Well worth it, however, when you could see her smile the entire time. Every once in the while, winter isn't that bad; you forget about that unless you can get outside and have some fun now and then. Plus the beer afterwards is even that much better.
Don't worry; Hattie is fine. That's what she calls a "Hattie being Hattie" pose. For whatever reason, she likes to pretend to fall over and have the sled fall on top of her. And be faceplanted in the snow. To be young again, right?
