It might look a bit like we're on top of a mountain, but we're not that high up. The bluffs in this area are only about 500 to 600 feet high. If you can see the ridge on the other side of the river, you can imagine how wide the Mississippi River was in antiquity. It was a big, big river thanks to the glacial melt thousands of years ago.
It's days like today when one doesn't find winter too bad. Most of the time I dread dealing with shoveling, and the cold. walking Mabel in the sub-zero weather, warming up the car...all those nuisances attached with snow and cold temperatures. Today however was perfect. Watching hawks soar by us on top of the valley was an incredible sight. Sadly, no photos of that, but I did manage one photo of a woodpecker on the hike out to this point.
Hattie and me love our woodpeckers! We also love our snow-covered landscapes, too...
Once we finished up a little snack and enjoyed the views, the northern wimd got to be a bit strong, so we headed back to the car. Another family #sublimesunday adventure in the books!
