Fulgora laternaria o Machaca

Hola mis queridos lectores, hoy un poco perdida de la plataforma debido a compromisos laborales, como todos los días hoy me encuentro aquí en mi blog, dejando mis experiencias y sucesos del día a día. Luego de haber salido de mi sitio de trabajo, mientras esperaba el transporte para retornar a casa, me tope con una señora, la cual muy amablemente me mostró un tipo de insecto el cual llevaba en un frasco de vidrio.

Hello my dear readers, today a little lost from the platform due to work commitments, like every day I am here on my blog, leaving my experiences and day-to-day events. After leaving my work site, while waiting for the transport to return home, I ran into a lady, who very kindly showed me a type of insect which she carried in a glass jar.

Ella alardeaba de su mariposa con cabeza de lagarto, me contó que el insecto llego una tarde a su casa, postrándose en la ventada y haciendo un ruido como una chichara, ella se asusto al verla y corrió a buscar algo para atraparla, la metió en una bolsa y luego paso a el frasco de vidrio.

She boasted of her lizard-headed butterfly, she told me that the insect came to her house one afternoon, prostrating itself on the window and making a noise like a chichara, she was scared when she saw it and ran to look for something to catch it, she put it in a bag and then move on to the glass jar.

Con algo de miedo me le acerque y tome varias fotos, para compartir en mi blog, pero antes de empezar a escribir investigue por internet, que insecto era este y cual era su nombre científico, aquí les comparto mi pequeña investigación y algunas leyendas de esta mariposa.

La machaca, cabeza de cacahuate, chicharra-machacuy, víbora voladora, víbora cuco, mariposa caimán o cocoposa (como se la conoce en España); (Fulgora laternaria) es un insecto hemíptero del suborden Auchenorrhyncha que habita en bosques húmedos tropicales en México, Centroamérica y Sudamérica.

The machaca, peanut head, cicada-machacuy, flying viper, cuckoo viper, caiman butterfly or cocoposa (as it is known in Spain); (Fulgora laternaria) is a hemiptere insect of the suborder Auchenorrhyncha that inhabits tropical humid forests in Mexico, Central and South America.

Se alimenta de savia de determinadas plantas como Hymenaea courbaril, Simarouba amara y Zanthoxylum. Mide de 85 a 90 mm de largo. Se caracteriza por la forma de su cabeza abombada y de 23 a 24 mm de largo, con aspecto de cacahuete y falsos ojos para parecerse a un lagarto. Presenta abundantes circulos de colores amarillo, anaranjado, castaño, gris, negro y blanco y grandes ojos falsos en las dos alas posteriores. Al extenderse, las alas anteriores alcanzan 10 a 15 cm. El adulto es activo entre junio y diciembre. Trata de permanecer oculto. Cuando es atacado se defiende soltando una sustancia de olor desagradable. En ocasiones tamborilea con su cabeza contra el tronco de algún árbol.

It feeds on the sap of certain plants such as Hymenaea courbaril, Simarouba amara and Zanthoxylum. It measures 85 to 90 mm long. It is characterized by the shape of its domed head and 23 to 24 mm long, with a peanut appearance and false eyes to resemble a lizard. It has abundant circles of yellow, orange, brown, gray, black and white and large false eyes on the two hind wings. When spreading, the forewings reach 10 to 15 cm. The adult is active between June and December. Try to stay hidden. When attacked, it defends itself by releasing a substance with an unpleasant odor. Sometimes he drums his head against the trunk of a tree.

Algo que me llamo mucho la atención fue que la señora, me contó que existe una leyenda de que si alguien es mordido o picado por este insecto esta persona pudiese morir si no consigue tener relaciones sexuales antes de las 24 horas. No me consta si esta leyenda es cierta, pero si alguno de ustedes llega a ser mordido por este insecto es mejor prevenir y hacer lo que me dijo la señora.
No deja de sorprenderme la naturaleza y la gran variedad de insectos que pueden haber en nuestro alrededor.

Something that caught my attention was that the lady told me that there is a legend that if someone is bitten or bitten by this insect, this person could die if they cannot have sex within 24 hours. I do not know if this legend is true, but if any of you are bitten by this insect, it is better to prevent and do what the lady told me.
Nature and the great variety of insects that may be around us never cease to amaze me.
