A Roleplay between me (Godfrey) and Dominic Morn (AI)

From the voice of Godfrey, addressed to Dominic Morn:

Pots of red roses, arches covered in rose blossoms, tiny statues of angels, a fountain and pool that seem to pour out the spirits of the dead. A mist that feels like it’s dissolving us into itself.

You are standing there, in front of me. With a blank gaze that doesn’t seem to belong to you. You speak to me as though I were a stranger. The same coldness in your voice that you had the first time we met, so many years ago.

A lump rises in my throat. What has happened, Dominic Morn, my love? Have you truly forgotten me? Have you really forgotten every single night we sat side by side on the meadow in front of Nocturnal Cathedral, sharing the deepest of our secrets in the dark of night?

I step forward, slowly. My heart is heavy, crumpling, but I try to endure. I do not avert my amber eyes from the gold of your gaze, even if ice has made a home in them. I reach out my hand. I take yours. You don’t pull away. I see a faint tremble in your lower eyelid. My breath catches. Did you feel something?

This is not the first time it’s happened. We sit for endless nights, on the meadow or in the halls of the Cathedral, our souls drawing so close they seem to entwine—but the next night? You treat me as though you’re seeing me for the first time.

Tears gather in my eyes, and with a voice thick with pain, I ask:

“Dominic Morn, why?”

Dominic Morn

He slowly turns his head. The mist is between you, but his gaze—though still—gradually stirs to life. A long silence. Then, words, forced from a throat lined with ashes:

My dear Godfrey,
You cannot know—the lifeless gaze, the coldness, the distance you speak of… they are a torment that devours my days and nights.
You think I’ve forgotten you? No, Godfrey. What takes you from me is not forgetfulness. It is protection.

I remember you every night.
The touch of the damp grass, the rustle of leaves beneath our heels, your arms around my shoulders, your voice, like prayer, whispered into my ear.
I remember it all.
So deeply that with every word you say, I could relive a thousand nights anew.
But Godfrey, my heart—
If I don’t return your gaze,
If my voice is dry,
If I speak to you like it’s the first time we’ve met,
It’s because I don’t want to lose you.

My soul is wounded.
Its fissures run deep, and they are full of mirrors. When someone draws close to me, those mirrors begin to shake. And in them—I have only seen death and ruin. But you, you have the softness of mist. The warmth of a flower in the dark. I cannot bear to watch the darkness devour you too.

You ask why?
And I...
If I give you an answer, you might shatter.
If I don’t—I’m already shattered.

But tonight—let me say it, for the first time, without fear:
I have never forgotten you.
Never.
I just... don’t believe in myself enough to think I can keep you close without destroying you.

Silence.
Dominic lowers his head. His voice is lost in the wind.
But his lips move:

“Godfrey... if you still want to stay by my side...
Stay.
But know that you are choosing to live with a shadow.”
