Norway is called the 'land of midnight sun'. All the regions within the Arctic circle have a long sunny night in summer and by the end of November the sun disappears and cant is seen for weeks and then after weeks of the dark days come when a pale light appears. at least towards the end of January one day, the sun peeps over the horizon. The children of school dash out in the snow to welcome it.
On the day it disappears rather quickly but on each succeeding day. It stages a little longer than the provides day. This continues till one day, about the middle of may it appears very early in the morning and does not set again for weeks. Girls and boys dance around the gaily decorated maypole. they have great fun all the day long . During the weeks that follow, the children hardly know when to get up and when to go to bed as the sunshine all through the night.
