Bengali New Year, also known as 'Pohela Boishakh' is the first day in the Bengali calendar.The traditional greeting for Bengali New Year is 'Shubho Nabobarsho' which means 'Happy New Year. It is a tradition in Bangladesh and the north-eastern part of India especially West Bengal, Assam and Odisha to consume Panta Bhaat (fermented rice) on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year.
