The past trauma had eaten so deep into her soul and left the remnant of her body in the asylum.

Kayla had experienced a lot and had seen more to make her never recover from her past so she always sat alone, and never uttered a word for five years since she was brought to the asylum.

“Kayla,” the nurse called, peeping through her window first before moving to the clear part of her door.

This was because Kayla loves being alone and those measures were necessary to be taken to see her. There was a time when she poked her long fingers through a nurse's eyes when she held onto her door railings without calling her first. With the nurse’s blood gushing out like a waterfall, Kayla laughed audibly, licking the blood on her fingers.

Today, Kayla was in a much more serene mood with her duvet clutched to her chest as she leaned against the wall in a corner. She looked as though she was hiding from a person or just staying away, retreating from the world.

Kayla’s permed hair falls on her face with the chandelier shining down her brown skin. The light was probably shining too bright on her face or she just wanted to hide in her space.

Usually, when she was in this state of hiding, she didn’t like to be disturbed. Almost like her peace was being disrupted but today seemed to be different.

“Kayla,” the nurse called again as she stood by her door and held onto the railings, staring at her to get a response.

Kayla looked up at the door side without moving the hair away from her face. She crawled from the corner to the door and the nurse stepped back a bit.

“Can I open the door, Kayla?” the nurse asked with a little bit of fear obvious in her tone and Kayla hit the door twice to signify yes.

“Thank you,” the nurse retorted and her hands shivered as she fumbled with the keys.

Finally, the door was open and the nurse took three steps backward which was not only because of the fear in her heart but also because it was a kind of safety measure written in their manual.

The nurse waited outside as Kayla was yet to step out neither was she in view. She had her hands pressed to her sides as she focused her gaze on the door.

Soon, Kayla appeared, standing in her full 5’9 feet glory. Her sight scared the nurse and within her, she knew she couldn't get used to being Kayla’s permanent nurse even though she had been for three years. The previous nurse before she resigned.

Kayla let out a deep breath before she brushed her hair to the back with her hand, revealing her model-like slim face. She has great facial features that contribute to her beauty, adding the teatop to her brown skin.

She stretched her lips in a thin smile; a smile that didn't reach her eyes but in contrast, a teardrop rolled down her cheeks.

“It's okay, Kayla. Someone is here to see you,” the nurse said as they walked away from her room and Kayla abruptly stopped.

The look of surprise was obvious on her face or more like a scared look on her face. The nurse understood quite well and a part of her felt pity for her and the tears rolled down her cheeks even more.

Since she was brought to the care home, not a single person has visited her in the past five years, not even those who brought her, and that has contributed immensely to her slow recovery.

The nurse moved closer, wiped the tears off her cheeks, and patted her back before they continued to walk.

Kayla had been through all the stages of mental health disorder, starting from being forced to watch her father sexually assault her twin sister to being forced to engage in bestiality with her favorite pet dog. Then a few weeks later, she got the news that they died in a fire accident. That day was the beginning of her mental disorder journey and the last day she spoke.

As she got to the visiting room, she looked around the room and then her eyes settled on a person who was sitting in a corner with her back turned on her.

“She’s here,” the nurse announced, and slowly, the person turned around to face her.

Kayla froze in her stance with her body shivering and her lips quivering as the person walked closer to her.

Kayla took a few steps backward as the person walked closer.

“K…K…Kay…K” Kayla said repeatedly as the shock on the nurse’s face became more apparent even than that on Kayla’s face. That was the first word she had ever said.

“Kay…Kaylie?” Kayla said her first word in five years as she stared intensely at her twin sister.

Apparently, she was the only survivor of the accident and was saved by a couple.

“Kaylie!!” Kayla said clearly this time as Kaylie hugged her tightly.

“Kayla!” Kaylie called with tears rolling down her cheeks.
