English version
Highway 9 is one of the longest in Venezuela, starting in Caracas and ending in Güiria. In this case, I’m on the Cumana-Cariaco section, which runs through the Bolívar municipality and, therefore, passes through Marigüitar, San Antonio del Golfo, and Cerezal. The photos are from my trip through the Quetepe area.
Along Troncal 9, you can find many tourist stops, and Quetepe is no exception, offering several inns and vacation rentals with all amenities, including internet. This community has grown significantly over the past decade and has expanded from the beach resort to form a residential development spanning several blocks; it runs alongside the highway, and you can even see homes on the hillside.
Driving along the highway is fascinating because it acts as a moving viewpoint: on one side, the mountains with their diverse rock formations tell stories from millions of years ago; on the other, the intense blue of the sea and the calm waters also offer wonderful views.
Another interesting aspect is that this community practices ecotourism, seeking to protect marine biodiversity in a way that benefits both residents and tourists who visit these natural areas. For this reason, the community itself manages everything related to the beach resort and its surroundings.
Please be advised that walking along the side of the road is dangerous, as vehicles—including heavy trucks and passenger vehicles—travel at high speeds here, and there is traffic at all hours. Therefore, it is not recommended to take this route with children; their safety must come first.
And so I finished my journey along this section of the vast highway. In my next post, I’ll head to Quetepe Beach to explore new areas.
