I visit my dad and my mam every week day but today was special.
He was born in 1923 and life has changed a lot since he was a kid.
Technology has advanced so much. He will read this on his iPad tomorrow while sat watching his cable Tv with 150 channels to choose from.
When he was born, TV was still a year from being made and colour TV, 5 years off. Although they were not available to watch for another 13 years when in 1936, the BBC started its broadcasts. This didn鈥檛 mean you could afford a TV.
TV changed first from VHF to UHF inbetween 1964 and 1969 and then to digital in 2012. The channels expanded from one to 480 in the UK.
The first talking movie picture was yet to be released and they still had a cinama in most villages.
When he was born, the fastest aircraft was the Curtiss R2C-1 at 266mph. Cars can go faster than this now. Today, the fastest can do over 1500mph. Aircraft have gone much faster, too, but since missiles can now travel faster than any aircraft, they have moved over to quite fast and more defensive.
Cars in 1923 were coming along quite well and although not something the ordinary person could afford, they were around. My dad says he remembers the first car in the village belonged to the doctor.
He lived through the Second World War and married my Mam in 1947. It's their Platinum anniversary this year, in less than a month.
He has listened to Sputnik One beeping away, and in 1969 we watched the first man land on the moon from the Jodrell Bank telescope.
All these things are what he would have read about as a kid. Jules Verne, Flash Gordon etc.
He has a good memory and we have some great chats about life.
Just think what we will achieve and see in our lifetimes.
