On July 15, I overheard my brother-in-law sharing a song with my sister that they created using AI. It was the first time I heard about Suno.com. It caught my interest, and I asked for the name of the site.

Since I was 8, I had this skill to easily craft a poem. I don't know where I got that talent. All I remember is that I started memorizing poems from elementary grade 2, and since then I had been assigned to recite a poem during a school event. My skill developed from memorizing to crafting poems. I could easily do it in our mother tongue. This continued until high school. However, I usually used my talent to make fun of people, particularly during our COCC days. It is still fresh in my mind when I used poems in local elections during political campaigns to commend candidates and platforms. People love it.

When I studied in the seminary, we had a colleague who could easily place musical notes, but he struggled to create poems. He asked us if we wanted to compose songs; we could send him poems, and he would do the musical task. Unfortunately, for some reason, he only stayed with us for a year and stopped his studies.

Creating songs was my frustration for my lack of skills in placing musical notes in my poems. Thanks to app like Suno.com to help me realize such a dream.

In this post, I want to share the first song I made using my own voice. I am planning to create a playlist for all 20 songs I made using Suno v5.5. The range of V4.5 was too high for me, and the voice is from Suno's database or pool of talents. V6 is also too refined and too good. Even though it retains the recorded voices I uploaded, the sound is no longer natural, and there are also cases where I could not hear my voice in the final production, which is too good. V5.5 is just within my range, and even though there are times that the voice is rough and seemingly out of tune, I still prefer it. There is no replacement for hearing your voice, and that's the reason I am paying for my subscription. I wish v5.5 could be recovered.

The title of the first song is It Is I. The message is about a person who keeps blaming people and circumstances, and he was too blind to see that his decisions in the past are the reasons for his suffering. Deliverance from self by the power of the gospel is his only way out. Here are the lyrics of the song:

[Verse 1]
I blamed the road, I blamed the rain,
I blamed the people who caused my pain.
I blamed the years, the doors that closed,
The hands that failed me, the life I chose.
I kept saying, “If only things would change,
If only someone else would take the blame.”
But in the mirror, I finally saw
The hardest truth of all.
[Pre-Chorus]
But every door I thought would set me free
Led me back to me.
[Chorus]
It is I, Lord, it is I,
I can no longer hide behind the lie.
Not “if only,” not “they made me,”
But the heart that needs Your mercy.
Change my heart, change my ways,
Teach me how to live by grace.
[Verse 2]
I thought a different road would save me,
A different love would finally heal me.
I chased applause, I chased success,
Thinking more would make me feel like less.
I built my worth on what people said,
I measured my life by the things I had.
But every door I thought would set me free
Led me back to me.
[Pre-Chorus]
Not my status, not my name,
Not the world that I can blame.
[Chorus]
It is I, Lord, it is I,
I can no longer hide behind the lie.
Not “if only,” not “they made me,”
But the heart that needs Your mercy.
Change my heart, change my ways,
Teach me how to live by grace.
[Bridge]
Rescue me from myself,
From the pride I cannot see.
Rescue me from every excuse
That keeps me from becoming free.
[Worship Rise]
Search me, Lord.
Know my heart.
Show me where I need to start.
Take the broken parts of me,
Make me who You want me to be.
[Final Chorus]
It is I, Lord, it is I,
Now Your grace has opened up my eyes.
No more “if only,” no more running,
No more hiding from becoming.
Change my heart, change my ways,
Teach me how to walk by grace.
It is I, Lord, it is I,
But Your mercy meets me where I hide.
Day by day, You make me new,
Teach me how to follow You.
[Outro]
When I look into the mirror,
Let me see what You can change.
When I face another morning,
Let me walk a different way.
No more “if only.”
No more blame.
By Your grace,
I will change.
It is I—
And you are still my hope.

The lyrics of the song are based on this article: @kopiko-blanca/rescuing-us-from-ourselves. The article is a summary and reflection of one of the chapters in Timothy S. Lane and Paul David Tripp's book, How People Change.
