Although I mentioned last time that I wasn't gonna draw for a while, I decided to make one more. I will be busy with my college work for a while, so maybe I'll be drawing less in the coming days.
This time, I decided to make twin Koi fishes. Koi fishes are coloured varieties of Amur Carps and are usually brought up for decorations in Japanese garden ponds. They are very colourful and fascinating!
Anyways, here's how I drew the Koi. I've used Pencil Colors for colouring.
- First draw 2 curved lines to show how the Koi are swimming.
- Draw a basic shape of fish following these guidelines.
- Erase the guidelines and fix the shape of the Koi, if needed.
- Draw the fins and other parts.
- Outline them using a pen and erase the pencil. This prevents smudging when using pencil Colors.
- Start by lightly colouring the Koi. Indicate the areas where you want the colours. At this point, the drawing looks extremely 2D.
- Now start darkening the colours and adding shadow near the outlines of the body and light at the centre to give a 3D effect. Repeat the steps with the other Koi.
- Finish basic Coloring.
- Darken or highlight the parts according to the need. It's done!
