Claim Bitcoin Gold from Seed - Utopian

Bitcoin Gold is live and everybody want to get their coin immediately. As I just want to save every cent and not transfer my coin back and forth, I am once again need to do something not so usual.

Sweep keys

There are some problems with key sweep. Number 1 issue is you would never know which key is the exact one you will need, and sometimes it is just too technical. At the time of writing, I am not sure if sweeping keys will need to transfer coins to the network and pay a fee, I suppose we need to pay.

Old Trick is Good Trick

I once again played with my keys and it was a 1 take success. If you followed my previous stories to prepare for the fork, you should have your BIP39 seed from Mycelium or Copay. If your wallet was created with Electrum, the 1st part of tutorial will not work for you. You will need to sweep your Pirvate Keys, that I will mention at the end.

Before continue, transfer your Bitcoin to another trusted wallet to reduce potential issue, such as you do not want to expose the Recovery Seed or Private Keys that contains a lot of your valuable Bitcoin.

Wallet

I am going to show you how to use Coinomi wallet on Android to get your coin. If you do not have Coinomi, get it from PlayStore. Beware of Scam. Use only this link: https://coinomi.com

Step by Step

1. On the 1st start up, choose Restore A Wallet. If you already set up a new wallet and have other coins in the wallet, you will need to use the sweep Private Key method, which I do not recommended.
2. Click Use a BIP39 passphrase and enter the Recovery Seed and hit Next.
3. Enter a password to encrypt the wallet locally.
4. Choose ONLY Bitcoin. Do NOT select Bitcoin Gold at this moment.
5. You should be able to see your Bitcoin transaction history. You will need a positive balance in the history on the day of fork.
6. Now, tap the button in the top left, and select + COINS.
7. Select BitcoinGold.
8. Tap Advanced Settings. In the “Derivation Path” please enter:
   M/44H/0H/0H If you are using SegWit address, very likely you will need to replace 44 with 49.
9. Hola~ you will see your BTG Balance, and you are able to spend your BitcoinGold now.

WARNING: I strongly advise you to transfer your coin only to wallet that natively support BitcoinGold, withOUT modifying the Derivation Path. It is VERY LIKELY you will LOSE all your BitcoinGold if you send it to a wallet that have MODIFIED Derivation Path.

Electrum

I am not entirely sure what we can do. But I think we can first get the Private Key. See below.

Sweep Private Keys

You will need to add BitcoinGold withOUT modifying the PATH. Once you created a normal wallet, you can go into the BTG Wallet, tap top right 3-dots and sweep wallet. I am just not advising you to do so because I did not do it for myself - there could be potentially better options as things develop.

If you are not sure, do NOTHING and not claim your BitcoinGold.
