Air Cooled Charity Run
The Aircooled Hooligans of South Africa has a yearly charity run to homes for the needy, mostly children homes. This takes place close to Christmas. This year we decided to do our charity to "Sparrow Aids Hospice and Children village" on the 16th of December.
We normally donate some money as these homes are always short of funds to cater for the needs of the children and also for maintenance. We also donate food, which is also normally in short supply, specially over the festive season when people are on holiday. My wife and I thus set of to buy some groceries to donate. We bought about R1500.00 worth of groceries which is around $115.00. After talking to the cook at the home and seeing the pots in the kitchen, one realizes that this is only a drop in the ocean. (The cook told us that she cooks 20 kg of rice in one shot in one of the pots.) The car on the right of the photo below, is the same one I used for MonochromeMonday yesterday 50 Shades of Rust here you can see the car in full color.
We started getting together from 16:00 on the day, meeting new people, looking at and talking about the cars!! Altogether we were 20 old cars, thus there were a lot to look at and talk about.
We had to wait for the sun to set at around 19:00 as we decorated our cars with Christmas lights which would only be visible in the dark. The kids would surely enjoy the lights on the cars.
Below you can see some of the cars arriving with the Christmas lights on. Just note the futuristic buildings of the home, I was quite surprised to see this, it almost looks like the Teletubbie homes!! I was also pleasantly surprised to see the neatness and condition of the buildings.
Below you can see some of the kids who sang us a song of appreciation. The kids also looked well cared for, which was also good to see. (Sorry about the photo quality)
Below are some of the bigger kids who made some nice music for us.
All in all the evening was a great success, as we collected just over R9000.00 just over $700.00 dollar. We also collected a lot of food for the home, which they appreciated a lot. Everybody enjoyed the run a lot.
I also would like to thank @tabaya2017 who gave me some SBD, some of which I also used for this cause.
I took these photos, using my iPhone, in Johannesburg South Africa.
I hope you enjoyed the photos as much as I did taking it.
