Distinguished Gentleman's Ride 2018: Johannesburg - South-Africa

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride is an annual event taking place world wide on the same date. The idea is to collect money for men's health!! So far South Africa has collected $49510 and is lying 15th on the list of counties who collected the most. 1561 registered riders took part in South-Africa. I took part in the Johannesburg ride, for which more than 800 riders registered. This is the biggest ride in South-Africa!! We are a group of friends riding classic BMW bikes. We met up at a Petrol station in Pretoria and drove as a small group to the starting point in Johannesburg. My ride was a 1958 BMW R60.

When we arrived, there already was a hive of activity at the gathering point, bikes everywhere!!

We drove to various destinations and ended up at Victoria Yards, which used to be some old workshops.

There was a craft brewery doing business from there, and I could test a nice craft beer!!

The beer was called Warrior Pilsner brewed by Impi Brewing Co

The beer comes in a 440 ml bottle and has 4.2% alcohol. We did not have glasses, thus I cannot show you how it poured, but this beer was ice cold and real good. It went down very well after the long ride!!

The one friend bought an entire bucket full of beers where we kept the beer on ice - nice!!

Below is a final pose in front of the old workshop, before we departed back to Pretoria. We had a great time riding our old machines for a good cause!! We rode about 140 km for the day.

The total number of riders taking part world wide was 111173 with a total of $5560218 collected up to now 16:00 South African time, thus there are still a few rides to be finalized!!
