Yeh it's some effort trying to go to bed earlier XD

My mum was perfectly fine discussing money when I was younger but it was very confusing for me as an incredibly stupid child because you weren't supposed to talk about how much money you were making (which as an adult I consider pretty important for making sure you're not over or undercharging/getting over/underpaid for anything and also to set realistic expectations) because it could cause friction/make other people jealous (I mean legit but also that's only on you if you specifically bring it up to brag/one up someone, if it's mentioned as part of a discussion and they're hit with envy that's entirely on them).

She did also try very hard to teach me how to budget and stuff but I quite simply did not understand. With what I know now I don't know if the dyscalculia had been identified then if extra steps could have been taken which would have aided understanding or if my brain would have just refused to accept any information no matter what til it was good and ready four decades later.

Similarly JJ and I did try very hard to teach the kids about money and budgeting and how the various economies worked (JJ more than me as he understands it a lot better). JJ even tried to teach them about investments by playing the stock market game with them (where they have a fake amount of starting capital and need to write down and track "investments" over a month or something and whoever has the most "money" at the end wins, all of them were determinedly uninterested and refused to participate). I think some of it has sunk in as they're all reasonably good at budgeting what little they get and they're all able to save up for relatively large purchases. Except moving out which has become prohibitive. And I think Eldest and Middle's boyfriend have played aroiund with crypto investments as that's what they can afford right now but I don't think they've gotten rich enough to dip into traditional investments.

And their circles seem quite happy to talk openly about money and how much they're making and stuff so there is that.
