That was the same conclusion I drew (about the pods "powering" the guns or disposing of whatever), I was just mildly puzzled that they don't notice the pods leaving and then wondering if the pods came back after making a delivery or if they were replaced by other pods, but I don't know how much attention they pay to space just because they are capable of going to space so who knows? XD
