Laid out with what appears to be a pinched nerve in my back, something of a result of teaching grade threes and having to bend over or kneel down to work at their tables. It is something I just have to get through. It is quite unpleasant though.

At any rate, I was reading my Twitter feed and saw that the Soska Sisters had been picked up to direct a remake of the David Cronenberg's Rabid. This happened at the annual American Film Market in Santa Monica, California. I am, of course, congratulatory of my fellow Canadian filmmakers but it put me into a reflective mood.

I was planning to be at the AFM this year with three or four properties that I wanted to pitch. Naturally, life got into the way and I had to make some changes to my overall plan which is how I have ended up in northern British Columbia teaching grade three after a five year break from the field of public education. Fortunately I enjoy teaching but it was not part of the plan.

I will be in this teaching profession for the foreseeable future but I have not given up my dreams and plans to continue as a filmmaker. My producing partners are actively shopping some projects that, while I won't be a central party to, I will still be involved with, if only on the margins. I do miss the film stuff. I got to travel more and this year's AFM was going to be my first trip south of the border as a producer. It would have been a great experience.

It is weird how things go sometimes.
