Sounds so super cool to them, but the .io extension is used by techies, not by the average blogger, the mass, the not so techie people.

The masses don't care if it's .com .blog .org .io or .toiletpaper

What's important is that the site ranks high when searching for the keyword. If that's not the case .com won't bring in more users to the site.
