Good morning my dear Hivers.... Today it gives me great pleasure to greet you and invite you to a cup of coffee just brewed.
With time I have been breaking little by little with the habits imposed by this "blessed" habit that we humans treasure of imitating until we appropriate... everything that becomes a trend. Here in Cuba we call it "vices". Three years ago, after several failed attempts, I finally managed to quit the very harmful -in every sense- and dangerous habit of smoking.
Alcohol never represented -thank the universe- a problem for me in terms of addiction, I was a social drinker, showman, bohemian and a notorious partier throughout my life which is not so short (60) -jijiji- that when I started to drink I had no bottom and I drank even the water from the vases -Jajajajajajajajajaja- without that ever became a conflict neither for me nor for my family. For several years now, only in meetings with friends or when I go to sing I drink a beer or a little drink to "unload tasty" and that's it....
But coffee...coffee is something else!!!
I still keep intact in my memory; the robust and strong image of my dear maternal grandmother Rita Manrrique (EPD), who got up every day at 5:00am with her apron on to strain the Caturra coffee -planted, harvested and piled by her own hands- in a immense strainer, to the delight of the farm workers who began the work with the "crowing of the roosters". That wonderful smell was the expected preamble for the second wash - the boys' -. It is a soft and recycling coffee that we drank mixed with milk that had just been milked, my cousin and I, dunking the bread in it -Hahahahahahaha- to shoot out with the first ray of sun full of dreams and energy in search of the adventures that await you. They always wait when turning on the royal road, when you still have the magic of 7 or 8 years intact.
-Jajajajajajaja-.
Coffee has always been associated with visits... Here in Havana it is drunk strong, short and in small cups, with sugar... because... "PA' AMARGA LA VIDA". At home
@saraleo -my wife- and I have an agreement; she drinks the one in the morning and I drink the one at 3:00pm after the siesta, and when someone arrives if the visit is mine she drinks it, I drink it if the visit is hers and everything is fine because "that's the way things are" when they are from the soul... -Jajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja-.
In this time of crisis and brutal shortages... and in advance I beg your pardon for sparing you the cumbersome details of what would be my opinion as to why we are as we are... getting a decent coffee is an Odyssey beyond imagination and I mean that when it appears, it is not sold neither in the currency nor in the stores to which most Cubans have access !!!!.
The one branded "Hola"; better known as "Café de la Bodega"... yes, "that" sold to us through the ration book, one sachet per person per month with a net weight of 115 grams... every day it tastes and smells less and less like coffee. It was always speculated that it was mixed with peas, but lately those who mix it have surpassed themselves so much that "it" is now a highly classified information -Jajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja-.
At this moment and without knowing how long it will last, we have some "good" coffee left -the real stuff- so take advantage of it, and if you pass by our house you can come and share a cup of coffee chatting on the terrace. To see each other's faces, breaking a little with this virtuality to which I am not quite used to and in which we have been irremediably entering... more and more each time.
So I bid you farewell for today and as always I send you many blessings and warm greetings from Havana.
