Aprendiendo a dialogar constructivamente/Learning to dialogue constructively
Hello dear Hivers, I hope you are very well and your week is being lovely. Writing this Initiative was once again liberating for me, this community always manages an analysis in me and here I share mine with you about the dialogue.
Not being able to sit down to dialogue, I pretended that people guessed what was happening to me or deduced the reason for my reactions and when they asked me what was happening to me I used to answer nothing or with a question. This became very frustrating for me and for everyone.
Faced with my inability to put into practice a dialogue, what I did was to write in a notebook or in the notepad of the telephone everything I felt, what I wanted to say, what was happening to me with the promise of showing it to the person I wanted to talk to. This didn't happen either, I wrote a lot, yes, but I didn't show absolutely nothing, and that's how many years passed.
I remember a five year old boy asking me to sit down and talk to him because he knew it wasn't right what happened, but that I was making him feel strange by not telling him anything. To tell him if I didn't love him anymore because that's what he thought when he saw me being quiet and I was making him feel bad, sad.
I can't explain what I felt when I heard my son speak so freely about what he was feeling and what my silence was causing him. My inability to dialogue was affecting him and I made the decision that this had to change, that if I was training a child to express and talk about things, I had to do the same as a mother.
Mainly, putting myself in other people's shoes is not difficult for me, because I always like to see things from another perspective in order to understand them. What is more difficult for me is to put myself in my own shoes and not speak from pain, anger or victimization. That is difficult for me and I have been facing it, because there are many things going through my head.
Not talking because I don't want them to think that they owe me pity or that "poor me" for what I am going through, sometimes I didn't do it either if I felt sad, so I wouldn't end up crying because I don't like to cry and even less I would talk from anger because what I usually say when I am upset is very hurtful. So I chose not to say anything, to keep quiet about everything and that is not healthy.
Speaking calmly: it is something that costs, but it is not impossible, so for that I really try to calm my mind and put my feelings calm. To do this I have to move away from the situation or the person, I go to my safe place, I put on music, I analyze everything and after having in mind what I want to express and how, I ask to speak.
I apply rules: before starting a dialogue I like to have rules such as listening to each other first without interrupting. First I want to get out everything I feel, which is what hurt me the most and at the end I ask for whatever I want for the peace and tranquility of all.
Don't hold anything back: I let it all out, don't hold back because if you are sitting down to talk it's because you really want to talk about everything and come to a solution. If you leave things pending, you would be bringing up again an issue that should have been left behind.
You can disagree and still respect each other's way of thinking, that can only be achieved with a good constructive dialogue and learning to dialogue. I am still in this learning process of life, in this growth and I can only tell you that I am doing very well.
As my grandmother says: it is never too late to learn, grow and live. And how do you dialogue, do you like to dialogue or not so much?
