Beer doesn’t taste relatively good or sweet, actually it has a sour taste, and if you drink it warm actually taste worst. But, why if beer is clearly not the sweetest drink, we cannot stop drink it?. It is a pretty valid question.
The first time I drank beer was when I was 18, and I remember I did not like it at all, the taste was horrible, but after that I continued drinking beer.
The answer is simple, the chemical compound of the beer.
Our brains have a reward system, this reward system starts to work when we relax, when we listen to music, or when we eat a dessert, in the case of beer, the chemicals of the beer activates this reward system, and our bodies start to feel pleasure, in that way we cannot stop drinking beer past the first sip.
Previous research has found that small quantities obeer are rewarding to the brain, forty nine man (alcoholics and non-alcoholics) were given small amounts of beer while doctors and scientists watched how their brains reacted using a PET scanner.
The results made the conclusion that just a sip of beer is enough to release a considerable amount of dopamine by the ventrial striatum, that effect wasn’t seen when water or Gatorade was supplied instead of alcohol.
The release of dopamine in the brain is a powerful motivator, part of an intricate reward system that has been honed by evolution to encourage important behaviors like reproduction.
