I took off my sandals
And left my car
Near the edge of the forest

The Queen Ann’s Lace
And dried maize
Lined the hill like a swaying chorus

With every step
The wildflowers shrunk
Before the growing canopy

Until the grass
Was gone at last
And the forest united with me
