BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge

RULESET: Lost Magic

Description:

Magic units may not be used in battle.

Use Thorns and Demoralize to counter melee attacks.
Use Headwinds and Return Fire to counter ranged attacks.
Units with 2 types of attack (which include magic) cannot be used.

In battles with Lost Magic Ruleset, Magic units may not be used in battle, but Melee units and Ranged units may be used. Also, units with 2 types of attack (which include magic) cannot be used.

As described in Splinterlands' BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge article, using Thorns Ability and Demoralize Ability against melee attacks and Headwinds Ability and Return Fire Ability against ranged attacks are quite effective in battles so I take great care to use them in battles with Lost Magic Ruleset. Also, I think it can be quite efficient to use Protect Ability and Rust Ability in battles with Lost Magic Ruleset, and such battles can give a great advantage to the team. That's why I don't hesitate to use them in such battles if I have the opportunity.

Brief Descriptions of Abilities Mentioned Above

  • Thorns Ability : When hit with a Melee attack, does 2 Melee damage back to the attacker.
  • Demoralize Ability : Reduces the Melee attack of all enemy Units by 1.
  • Return Fire Ability : When hit with a Ranged attack, Units with Return Fire will return half the damage (rounded up) back to their attacker.
  • Headwinds Ability : Reduces the Ranged attack of all enemy Units by 1.
  • Rust Ability : Reduces the Armor of all enemy Units by 2.
  • Protect Ability : All friendly Units gain +2 Armor.

I will share a battle with Lost Magic Ruleset, I hope you like it.

Battle Ruleset

  • Lost Magic: Monsters with Magic attack may not be used in battles.
  • Explosive Weaponry: All Monsters have the Blast ability.
  • Active Units : Death and Dragon
  • Mana Cap : 23

Blast Ability : Does half damage (rounded up) to Units adjacent to the target Unit.

MY STRATEGY

Before starting the battle, after reviewing the opposing player's last 5 battles and considering the ruleset of the battle, I was almost certain that the opposing player would prefer Camila Sungazer as Summoner, so if I chose Melee Attack Monsters in this battle, there was almost no chance of winning this battle so I will use Ranged Attack Monsters in this battle. But I will definitely use Thorns Ability and Protect Ability.

I will choose Quix the Devious as summoner because I thought reducing the speed of all enemy monsters and the ranged attack of all enemy ranged attack monsters by -1 would give the team an advantage. Also, I wanted to use Djinn Chwala in the first position.

I will put Djinn Chwala with Thorns Ability in the first position. I'll use ranged attack monsters on the backline. I will also add Ravenhood Warden with Protect Ability to the team.

Since the battle has Explosive Weaponry ruleset, all monsters in this battle would have Blast Ability, so using Reflection Shield Ability could give the team an advantage. But when I thought that there would be Sneak Monsters on the opposing team, it might not be very advantageous to use it, I thought it might be more advantageous to use Backfire Ability in the last position instead. Frankly, if the battle had 25 mana or more or the battle didn't have the Lost Magic ruleset, I would definitely use Reflection Shield Ability. Also, if the battle was 30 mana or more, I would put Cursed Windeku with Thorns Ability in the last position. Honestly, I didn't have much choice since the mana cap was 23, I took care to use my best cards according to the mana cost to win the battle.

  • Reflection Shield Abilit : This Unit doesn't take damage from Blast, Magic Reflect, Thorns, or Return Fire.

I would like to point out that I have determined the line up of my team according to the health and abilities of the Monsters.

LINE UP

Summoner : QUIX THE DEVIOUS

I chose Quix the Devious as the summoner because I thought reducing the speed of all enemy monsters by -1 and the ranged attack of all enemy ranged attack monsters by -1 would give my team an advantage in this battle. Quix the Devious is a Dragon Summoner that reduces the speed of all enemy monsters by -1 and reduces the ranged attack of all enemy ranged attack monsters by -1.

DJINNCHWALAStats.png
Source

Position 1 : DJINN CHWALA

Djinn Chwala is a Dragon that can attack the target with Melee Attacks and has Thorns Ability from level 1. And I put it in first position. Thorns Ability is a ability that can be very effective against Melee Attack Monsters, so I used it in this battle without hesitation.

  • Thorns Ability : When hit with a Melee attack, does damage back to the attacker.

CORPSEFIENDStats.png
Source

Position 2 : CORPSE FIEND

Corpse Fiend is a Monster that can attack the target with a Melee Attack. The main reason I added Corpse Fiend to the team was that it only cost 0 mana and I put it in the second position.

WEIRDINGWARRIORStats.png

Position 3 : WEIRDING WARRIOR

Weirding Warrior is a Monster that can attack the target with a Ranged Attack and has Shatter Ability from level 1. And I put it in the third position. The main reasons I added Weirding Warrior to the team was because it only costs 2 mana and has Shatter Ability. The Shatter Ability is a ability that can be very effective against armored monsters because when a Monster with the Shatter Ability hits its target, it will destroy all of the target monster's armor, no matter how much armor it has.

  • Shatter Ability : Target's armor is destroyed when hit by an attack from Units with Shatter.

RAVENHOODWARDENStats.png

Position 4 : RAVENHOOD WARDEN

Ravenhood Warden is a Monster that can attack the target with Ranged Attacks and has Protect Ability from level 1. The most important reason I added Ravenhood Warden to the team was because it has the Protect Ability. And I put it in the fourth position to keep it away from the first attacks of the enemies.

  • Protect Ability : All friendly Monsters gain +2 Armor.

SOULSTRANGLERStats.png
Source

Position 5 : SOUL STRANGLER

Soul Strangler is a Monster that can attack the target with Ranged Attacks. Even though Soul Strangler didn't have any abilities, it was a big advantage that it only cost 3 mana and could attack with 3 ranged attacks, so I added it to the team and put it in fifth position.

NAGAASSASSINStats.png
Source

Position 6 : NAGA ASSASSIN

Naga Assassin is a Monster that can attack the target with a Ranged Attack and has Backfire Ability at level 4. The main reasons I added Naga Assassin to the team was because it only costs 2 mana, has 5 speed and Backfire Ability. I put it in the last position because of its abilities.

  • Backfire Ability : If an enemy misses this Unit with an attack, the attacker takes 2 Melee damage.

BATTLE COMMENTS

Round 1

Battle Link

To be honest, the opposing player's strategy was also very good, but the opposing player had a strategy very close to my guess.

In the first round, the monsters on both teams attacked quite effectively, and it was admirable that the monsters didn't miss their targets. While a monster from my team was destroyed, no monsters from the opposing team were destroyed, but Cursed Windeku only had 2 health left.

Round 2

round2.png

In the second round, it was admirable that all the monsters hit the target, and frankly, I was surprised that the enemies missed. But my team managed to destroy Cursed Windeku and this made the opposing team's job very difficult because the monsters in the opposing team's backline had very little health. In the second round, while 3 monsters from the opposing team were destroyed, no monsters from my team could be destroyed. The Thorns Ability was very useful in this battle and the fact that Djinn Chwala still had 6 health at the end of the second round was a huge advantage for my team. And the opposing team has only 3 monsters left and they have very little health so the opposing team was now very difficult to do in this battle.

Round 3

round3.png

At the start of the third round, 3 monsters were alive on the opposing team but they also had very little health so it wasn't too hard to destroy them. My strategy worked very well in this battle so my team was able to win a pretty tough battle.

round32.png

The battle only lasted 3 rounds and my strategy worked pretty well in this battle and my team managed to win the pretty tough battle. The fact that I chose Quix the Devious as the summoner in this battle, put the Djinn Chwala with Thorns Ability in the first position and used the Protect Ability helped a lot. In this battle, it was a big advantage for all the monsters in my team to have extra +2 armor, so I take care to use the Protect Ability in such battles. Also, before deciding on my strategy, the fact that I reviewed the last 5 battles of the opponent made my job easier in this battle, so I take care to review the last 5 battles of the opponents before the battles. It was admirable that 5 monsters were still alive in my team while all the monsters on the opposing team were destroyed at the end of the battle, frankly, I did not expect such an easy victory, which shows that my strategy worked quite well. I recommend you to watch this great and quite challenging battle from the Battle Link. I hope you will like it.
