Hello everyone, below is an image of a small yakitori(Japanese skewers) vendor. Yakitori means Yaki -grilled, Tori - chicken.
I am overseas right now and I was browsing some of my photos and came across this picture I took recently. It made me long for good yakitori.
Our yakitori guy shows up most Fridays at the small market near my house. These types of small food vendors are common in Japan. The yakitori vendors usually have their own sauces, mixes of skewers and style. Sometimes they can be family recipes passed down for generations and the flavors can rival the best yakitori you can get at larger restaurants.
Our yakitori guy has really good pork. It's just pork slices on a stick, but when you add the sauce it's magic.
You can see 1 skewer costs between $1.30 - $1.60. A few skewers, a side of cabbage from the market and a beer make for such a nice little meal. I can't wait to go home and enjoy a small meal just like that. Simple pleasures are so underrated.
Sorry I didn't take a picture of the yakitori, but I guess that means you'll just have to come try some when you are in town. I'll give you the address, but until then, he's our secret.
