The Wedge is a world famous beach in Newport Beach, CA. known for it's massive shore break waves. This past week my brother and his kids were in town so I took them down there to play in the legendary surf.

Amazingly when we arrived at noon it was still overcast. That's very odd weather for So. Cal in the middle of July.

My first pictures were of this seagull dreaming of another life as a human bodysurfing the waves.

Despite the weather the kids immediately ran into the water, not the waves, just the white wash on the shore.

On second thought...

Soon they started pulling out masses of seaweed and oddly several roses too. These weren't your corner store flowers, these were beautiful, large flowers that cost money. Someone had probably tossed them overboard earlier in the day as there is a marina next to the Wedge.

So I planted them in the ground and started taking pictures of them.

I like the contrast of the chaotic waves behind the beauty of the flowers.

This one reminds me of a couple snuggling together.

The waves weren't all that big that day, but the sets got large enough to put on a little show and produce some pain for those who dared ride them.

In case you don't know, sets are waves that come in say every 5 - 10 minutes and consist of several larger waves than the normal waves.

This was a normal wave that day.

Looking around the beach and ocean beyond I saw this parasail way off in the sea.

A lost crow on seagull turf.

More boats heading out of the marina.

One of the houses I'm going to buy when I win the lottery.

One last shot of the roses.

It was a nice day at the beach despite the weather. We headed down to Laguna Beach yesterday and the weather was the same! I'll post about that next time.

Thanks for reading.
