For anyone who hasn't heard of them, 21 Pilots is a fairly popular band with a number of "mainstream" hits such as Heathens, Stressed Out, Chlorine, and many others.
I first started listening to 21 Pilots about 7 years ago when my brother showed me Car Radio. As the years went on, I would regularly hear their new songs on the radio while commuting to school. It wasn't long before I began considering them one of my favorite bands.
A quick aside. After I finished school, I got what many would call "red pilled". I call it "black pilled". By "black pilled" I mean awareness of some of the dark, twisted truths of our society (e.g., Epstein's island, Bohemian Grove, etc.). A few more years passed, which brings us to this past summer... it was a hot one.
Long story short, I started really listening to 21 Pilots (as in listening to songs that aren't necessarily on the radio). After hearing Nico and Niners I decided to look into the 21 Pilots reddit page. Aside from random updates with regards to their tour, there were a lot of fan theories and discussions pertaining to the DEMA universe that 21 Pilots came up with.
As I understand it, DEMA is a fictional city that is controlled by nine bishops. The city is fundamentally evil and none of the citizens are allowed out. Officially, it is supposed to be an analogy for depression. And while the DEMA does make a good analogy for depression. I feel like there is something more to it.
Now maybe, this is just me, but I feel like DEMA is also chillingly similar to our own society. However there are a few differences. Instead of blatantly being trapped in a city, I feel like most people are trapped inside their minds. Anyone who has opinions that differ from what the "mainstream" deems acceptable are censored and/or slandered. It has created a society that mirrors that of 21 Pilot's DEMA.
I'm going to end this post here for now. But this probably won't be my last 21 Pilots post. I now consider them my favorite band (I've never had an official favorite band). Not just because I think they are genius artists, but because they have been with me throughout the past decade... even before I was "black pilled". From Car Radio to Never Take It, Tyler and Josh have helped me cope with life and keep my inner fire burning.
Anyone else get the feeling Tyler and Josh are trying to tell us something? Here is a link to their fan page where you can find tons of material on their album Trench. I'd be happy to hear what others have to say. Maybe I'm looking too deep into things, but methinks I'm not the only one who has this feeling about hidden messages in many of their songs.
