Hello, Splinterlands warriors!
This time, I want to share a small experience that might seem insignificant, but I think it is actually quite important when we're building an Exemplar. After all, building a character takes some thought. Sometimes, after looking at things again, there is an ability that just doesn't feel like the right fit. Leaving it as it is doesn't feel right, but changing it is still possible if you have a reset available.
And luckily, I still had a reset available.
Rather than regretting my decision later, I decided to use it.
Before performing the reset, I took another look at the Exemplar I had been using. At Level 25, my previous build had these stats:
The abilities I had chosen were:
At first glance, the build wasn't actually bad. In fact, Ambush and Poison Burst still looked pretty interesting for certain situations.
The problem was Deathblow.
For some reason, the more I thought about it, the more I felt that this ability didn't really fit my plans for this particular Exemplar. I started imagining what would happen if I replaced it with Execute.
And that's when a simple thought popped into my head:
"If I can still reset it, why not fix it now?"
In the end, I pressed the reset button.
There was no explosion.
Instead, I simply found myself looking at my Exemplar's stats again—and surprisingly, everything was still exactly the same.
Mana Cost 10, Magic Attack 3, Armor 1, Health 4, Speed 2.
So compared to my previous build, the stats hadn't changed at all. That makes sense because after the reset, I hadn't leveled up the Exemplar again yet.
But there was one change that was actually the main reason I performed the reset.
I left Deathblow behind and replaced it with Execute.
And that's what I had been waiting for.
For me, this change only becomes truly interesting once I take it into battle.
I'm not going to rush into saying that Execute is definitely better than Deathblow. Splinterlands can be funny like that. An ability that looks amazing on paper can turn out to be useless when the ruleset and the opponent's lineup don't support it.
Instead, I'm waiting for the opportunity to encounter the Rise of the Exemplars ruleset.
That's when I want to see for myself how Execute performs in an actual battle situation.
Because for me, the best theory still can't beat the experience of a single battle.
There is one thing I learned from this simple experience: don't rush to level up your Exemplar if you're not yet sure about your ability choices.
The temptation to immediately level up can be pretty strong. Of course we want to see our character become stronger.
But ability choices also need to be considered based on your playstyle and the rulesets you frequently encounter.
For newer players, I think this is especially important. Don't simply copy another player's build. Pay attention to why they chose that particular ability. Does it work well with the cards you own? Does it fit your strategy? Does it work well under certain rulesets?
For me, this reset wasn't a failure.
It was more like rearranging the cards on the table because I felt that one card was in the wrong place.
My stats are still the same. But my ability choices now fit my plans better.
And now, there's only one thing left to wait for:
When Rise of the Exemplars appears, can Execute really prove itself?
If it manages to create a cool moment in battle, I'll definitely come back and share the story.
Don't be afraid to reset as long as you still have a reset available and you have a strategic reason to do so. But before replacing an ability, think carefully about how that ability will actually work in a real battle.
Because in Splinterlands, something that looks great in the menu doesn't necessarily become the king of the arena.
