All you need to do is remove any distraction or obstacle than prevents you from studying and start by making it fairly easy on yourself. Use the pomodoro method, study for 25 minutes, take a 5 minute break, repeat this then give yourself a long 30 minute break, so on and so forth. You can experiment with the time blocks and see what works best with you. I personally study for 45 minutes followed by a 15 minute break then repeat for 4 times and give myself a 30 minute break. Make yourself feel interested in the topics you are studying, act like a teacher explaining to a classroom or a professor explaining to a full lecture hall. Speak out loud, write down any distractions in your notebook and review them during your breaks, use the feynman technique and write a “cheat sheet” of all the main concepts in a chapter or unit you’re picking up. Listen to classical music or white noise as you’re studying, read book in your free time about philosophy, stoicism, the science of learning, etc. to know what you should expect once you sit down and study and how you should behave and so that the topics you’re studying are more relevant to you, watch some fun thought provoking youtube videos on them. Apply “productive fidgeting”, ie having a bottle of water, a cup of tea, or a mug of coffee and sip every time you study. The most important thing to make sure you’re studying effectively is active recall, test yourself on the topics you learned with every material available be it in the textbook or online to make sure that you don’t fool yourself thinking you mastered the topic when you haven’t. Write down a list of goals in the form of checkboxes to give you a sense of direction and a little blast of dopamine every time you check a task off. Studying is not a burden, and you don’t have to make it one. Entertain the idea of studying as an integral part of every learner, researcher, and philosopher.
