Hi everyone, I hope all is well.
My artwork for today is a simple sketch of Ash and Pikachu, characters from Pokémon.
Pokémon is a Japanese franchise consisting of video games, animated series and films. Although I've watched a Pokémon film once, I'm not really a big fan. But last night as I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, I came across a post by a certain Instagram artist of Ash and Pikachu.
This is the reference.
There was something about the post that really drew my attention, I don't know what it was but I think it was actually the relationship shared by both characters in the picture, the artist was able to show the strong bond Ash and Pikachu share.
First glance at the picture and I had already fallen in love with it so I decided to make a pen sketch of it.
As usual, the pen sketch was sketched with my normal technique "linear hatching". I really love the way the post turned out when I was done.
Below is my step by step process
First of all, I made a pencil sketch of the picture
Then I added more details to the sketch
I outlined the whole sketch with my ball point pen
After the pen outline, I used a pencil to signify the parts of the sketch where shadows will fall
Then I used hatching to shade in other to give volume to the sketch
This was the result after hatching and adding the background design
