When the roof is lost to time... | My entry for #Monomad Challenge [ENG-ESP]
Hello, black-and-white photography enthusiasts on Hive!
In every city, there are certain buildings that remain in the collective imagination or memory of its inhabitants and visitors alike—structures that hold significant value, whether due to their beauty, architecture, or legacy.
One of those structures, which everyone in my city recognizes, is the CV Deportivo—a sports complex built in 1918 that refuses to die, despite its current state of abandonment and the rapid structural deterioration it is undergoing.
In its early days, it was an exclusive tennis club for high-society families. From the 1960s onwards, it became a space for the general public, bringing together training in various sports disciplines—such as gymnastics, calisthenics, Basque pelota, squash, combat sports, swimming, and tennis.
Seeing its deterioration saddens me deeply. It was here, during my childhood, that I practiced gymnastics, and those memories still linger in my heart, stirring deep emotion.
Of all the disciplines that were once practiced on its premises, only Basque pelota—along with swimming, whenever the pool happens to be in suitable condition (which, unfortunately, is not a common occurrence)—remains active.
An architectural structure that still impresses gets lost amidst the contrast of our social reality...
I try, then, to savor the memories that well up in my chest; I smile and say goodbye for now—until the next black-and-white frame—but not before sending each of you a warm, radiant embrace!
Remember: don’t forget to smile!

Remember: don’t forget to smile!
Recuerden, ¡no olviden sonreír!
