As you may already know, I am working on a long term, creative investment project. In May I devised a plan to make 20,000 18 x 24" paper paintings over the next 20 years. I am moving right along, staying on track, and realizing this is work—creating not one, but three, sometimes up to eight, original paintings each day. It feels like journal writing, especially with the titles I come up with. I must burn out at some point, so I have decided to take it year by year. When I hit a thousand of these, I will reassess to determine if it is not worth the candle, though I think it must be something special for I am so determined to get it done. Like running eagerly to leap off a cliff, twenty years away. I’m nearing 400, so please bear with me. After fifteen years of this, I imagine I’d be dragging my feet to finish, since death will be drawing nigh. At present, they’re hanging 5 deep on clothesline tied up around the studio. What a look! After they dry, I title the backs, and box them up in dated groupings of one hundred.

I have decided that while I am alive, each painting goes for $100. Even if unsold, they remain kinetically ready to provide a decent income. I see people doing much less for a hundred grand a year. Much less, and even more abstract—like managers managing managers who manage managers. So, provided I hold out the entire 20 years, and lucky to live that long, I will have a 2 million dollar retirement fund to go play retired person with. To be able to pay for my own lunch including tip will be a dream come true!
