We will continue the series called "Canadian Wildlife".
The Royal Canadian Mint is known by its high quality work and the enormous number of commemorative coins issued each year. Among these commemoratives we find many, individual or in series, under the theme "wildlife".
Canada, with its vast lands and seas, is the home of a varied fauna and that will be showed in this series.
I will try to post land animals, sea animals and birds, in that order.
The sixteenth is a 2016 CAD $5 "Cougar".
In 2016 the Royal Canadian Mint decided to create the "Predator Series (Bullion Issues)". It would last till today, with one $5 coin minted each year.
Each coins weights 31.11g with Bullion finish and 99.99% silver purity. Each mintage was 50,000 units. The issue price was Bullion Value.
The reverse shows the "Cougar" (Puma concolor). It is a large felid of the subfamily Felinae, native to the Americas. Its range spans from the Canadian Yukon to the southern Andes in South America, and is the widest of any large wild terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere.
The reverse was designed by Canadian artist Emily Damstra and depicts a cougar in a mid-air attack position.
