As a game ranger on a Big 5 Private Game Reserve in South Africa I get to see some exciting things. I count myself quite blessed really. And yesterday morning as we were out on a drive, looking for lions, we bumped into these two beasts as they were headed back to the water after a long hot night of grazing. Weighing around 2 tonnes, and generally pretty grumpy animals, we had to keep a close eye on them to make sure they left us alone! But fortunately they did. The older female looked VERY pregnant, and soon I think there will a new, little hippo joining us!
