On the surface, I agree with this @jackmiller ...

"Logic needs to prevail ..."

... as in a reasonable world, that would represent a position from which "reasonable" people could have a discussion and, with good intentions, arrive at a consensus. Based upon the perception that we were dealing with others from a base of the character and integrity required, even if there was initial disagreement.

Sadly, not from my view. Inherent in what you suggest is the need for a system for registering everyone who owns a firearm of any sort. Requiring trust in the all powerful State to use it for its stated purpose and never anything more. Right ...

I could write a lot more, but I am sure you get the general idea of where I stand on this issue. I am in the minority though and shrinking at that, so I imagine we'll all find out soon enough how this plays over the next few years. Only God knows what the final outcome would be, if the American people are ever successfully disarmed.
