Way back in the day, one of the better bands I had been with up to that time had gotten involved in a "Battle Of The Bands" We won of course, but here's the real skinny. The prize was 100 hours studio recording time and 1000, 45's. That was a popular vinyl that we spread all across the state in the jukeboxes and radio stations. There were several rounds of eliminations. The hot band for us to beat was "another cute girl" country band. Our lady singer noticed, they always did the same three songs. At the finals, our gal asked, " That girl always sings "The Sweetest Thing". Can you guys play it better than her band?" "Well yeah" we replied, "Can you sing it?" She said, "Oh yeah!" We were scheduled to go on right before them in the line up. We did our other two knockouts and then ended with the other girl's song. OMG! Not only did we kill it but the "another cute girl" country band went crazy! They completely blew their show. Afterwards they went to the judges and threw a southern country fit! 30 years later, who cares? We have about 900 45's in ancient jukeboxes around the state. It got a little airplay and in a few venues statewide , our gal's original was a hit. But the biggest thrill was watching our competitions jaws drop. That my friends is strategy!
