Close, it was Nanatasket Beach in Hull MA on the south shore.
as for the lack of friendly demeanor...lol, yeah pretty much. They tolerate the influx of people in the summer but for the rest of the year they're a pretty salty bunch. We really felt like the beach was OURS from like September through May.
Loved every minute of it tho. It's one of the few surfing towns in New England, so living 2 blocks from the beach I would go out there every time there were waves and just walk back to my apartment after to de-suit in the shower.
Ahhh, those were the days...
