As someone who has lived most of their life in major tourist destinations, I know firsthand that they are FULL of “tourist traps”. You know, places that are sub-par but get lots of traffic simply because they stuff the right pockets. Yes, shocking but true  :-(

It really bums me out to see people spend their hard earned money and waste their valuable vacation time on horrible overpriced restaurants and costly “must do” activities that are more hype than adventure.

The really sad part is that because it is in our nature to not want to admit when we have been fooled in these ways, we often convince ourselves that the experience was better than it really was.

Well, I am out to save my fellow human from that! (cue cheering crowd!)

I plan on sharing some of the BEST sites, activities, restaurants, and more from the opinion of a Sedona Local. Now that’s not to say that all of these places will be cheap, BUT, you can be sure that if you pay a premium price that you will really be getting the value that matches that!

So, the first place I am going to feature is a little hole in the wall sandwich shop called #Sedona Memories.

This place has the BEST sandwiches hands down! As a local, I get huge kick out of sitting in the “dining area” and watching people’s reactions when their custom made sandwich arrives. It's a very popular site for #Selfies

Let’s talk about Quality: Each sandwich is custom made when you order it. Their bread is the best I have EVER tasted! It is handmade and baked fresh every morning along with their Yummy cookies!

Let’s talk about Ambiance: Nothing flashy about it, very much like hanging out in your back yard with friends, that is if you have this kind of view in YOUR back yard! ;-)  (not rubbing it in, just sayin')

Let’s talk about Variety: You will find all the typical choices here for sandwiches, but there are some unique options for toppings that are worth a try. For example cranberry sauce, sunflower seeds, and shredded carrots to name a few.

Let’s talk about Value: You can be sure to get your money’s worth here! In fact, few people can finish an entire sandwich on their own, so I highly recommend sharing if at all possible. You can of course always save your leftovers, however I wouldn’t suggest that because the super fresh bread will quickly turn to mush if you let it sit too long. PLUS, if you didn’t notice it in the menu image above, you get a FREE homemade cookie just for calling your order in ahead of time!

Here’s a locals tip: Grab your table, call in your order, and simply take in the view for about 10 minutes, then go pick up your order! By the way, EACH sandwich ordered this way will be rewarded a cookie! V-A-L-U-E!!!

Let’s talk about what you need to know: This place is VERY popular, mainly because once people learn about it, they NEVER forget! So if you have a favorite bread or type of sandwich, you better get there early because when they run out of something for the day you’re SOL. Also, they are only open until 3:00, and they ONLY accept cash! There is an ATM about 100 yards away though so don’t panic!

In the event of strong winds, which are common around here, everyone is responsible for holding onto their own umbrella. Yep, I’m serious ;-)

Let’s talk about why I like this place: As I mentioned, the bread is the BEST I have ever tasted, I prefer the whole wheat, and it looks like rye for some reason but it is just AWESOME! I am vegan so it’s hard to get a satisfying sandwich without meat or cheese, but there are plenty of tasty toppings here to make my taste buds happy!

I also love the fact that the “dining area” is pet friendly. We take Rodger and Stella everywhere with us so anyplace that is pet friendly gets EXTRA points with me!

So there you have it, my first Sedona, AZ – Beyond the tourist traps post, this place is sure to be mentioned whenever you tell your friends and family about your AWESOME trip to Sedona!   If you get a chance to visit Sedona Memories please share your opinion and a photo of what you ordered below.
