Introduction

This book is a collection of photographs taken by the British astronaut Tim Peake during his time on board the International Space Station, from 15th December 2015 to 18th June 2016.
The book starts off with a short introduction from Tim himself, where he gives details about how he captured the photographs, techniques used and what it was like to live onboard the ISS.

Chapter 1

Moving on from the introduction the book moves swiftly on to the first collection of photographs with the chapter titled "Night and Day". This chapter encompasses some stunning images from counties at night as they are illuminated by the bright lights of their cities and towns, i felt that this part really put into perspective for me, just how many people actually live on earth and it got me thinking about what people in those cities might be doing right now as I am reading this book.
The chapter also includes some gorgeous sunsets that will capture your imagination.

Chapter 2

The second chapter named "Rivers and Oceans" shows beautiful birds-eye views of rivers, showing how nature has carved its way through our landscape and has provided civilizations with sustenance for thousands of years.
The oceans and seas in this chapter also covered some small island groups and some beautiful locations that would be perfect for a nice beach holiday.

Chapter 3

The third chapter is called "Mountains and Deserts". This is my least favourite chapter in the book as I find it difficult to appreciate the majesty of the mountains from a birds-eye perspective.
Some of the deserts were interesting but were mainly just orange masses of land with little of interest to look at.

Chapter 4

Chapter four is the best chapter in my eyes. Titled "Towns and Cities", this chapter shows inspiring photographs from beautiful towns and cities around the world. This chapter made me realise the incredible work that humans have done on this planet to create these societies that help people to thrive and work with each other to create something special.

Chapter 5

The final chapter of the book named "Space and Home" covers some of the natural phenomena that happen in our world like the Aurora Borealis. It also includes some images of the ISS and the spacecraft that bring supplies to the ISS. This chapter has some of the most beautiful images in the book and puts into perspective just how small our little planet is.

Summary

In conclusion, I found this book very inspiring and thought-provoking. It caused me to sit back and consider what I was looking at and why Earth is the way that it is and what the future might hold for our civilization. If you are a fan of photography, are looking to be inspired by space travel or just love looking at beautiful photographs then this book would be perfect for you. As it is just a collection of images with small descriptions on each, it is the kind of book that you could pull out at look at again and again.
